Established in 2026, the Harlem Community Research Catalog is an anti-profit archive and art space containing ephemeral material—zines, photos, pamphlets, paper objects—created in, around, or about Harlem, NY beginning in the twentieth century.
The vision of this digital collection is one of a practical, communal, perpetually accessible historical imagination, built from fragments of community memory, activated by the centering, amplifying, and sharing of those stories. In doing so this exhibition attempts to facilitate a deeper understanding of the dynamics, rhythm, temporalities, memories, and ideas that construct a shared past, and suggest new futures. The aim of this archive is to assist in cultivating a free, open-access network for knowledge production amongst community members participating in art, music, research, and political organizing across the Morningside Heights, Harlem areas and beyond. The hope is that this collection aids in the cross-pollination of ideas through art—that it helps folks find each other for collaboration, inspiration, and mutual understanding.
